Materials and engineering support for the U.S. Navy's Virginia-class submarine program is to be provided by a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated.
The contract to Teledyn Oil & Gas group, or DGO, was issued by General Dynamics Electric Boat and covers electrical and fiber-optic interconnect assembly hardware for the submarines.
Details as to the financial value of the award, which Teledyne described as the largest single award ever received in DGO's 50-year history, was not disclosed, but work performed will be for 10 submarines.
"This is a significant award for DGO and Teledyne Oil & Gas," said Robert Mehrabian, the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Teledyne. "Working together, our Oil & Gas companies have demonstrated the ability to develop and manufacture interconnect solutions for the most demanding marine environments.
"We are honored to continue providing Electric Boat with these high quality, SUBSAFE verified products for our nation's submarine fleet."
DGO's work on the contract begins next year.
The nuclear-powered Virginia-class fast-attack submarines have a speed of 30-35 knots or more.
