Canada's finance minister announced "strong movement" in preliminary G7 talks Friday to forgive Haiti's foreign debt, following a devastating quake last month.
"There's some progress on that and I'm sure we'll talk about it over the weekend," Finance Minister Jim Flaherty told reporters.
"I've talked to some of the international financial institutions that are represented here and I think there's a strong movement for debt forgiveness and assistance for Haiti."
The Group of Seven industrialized nations' finance ministers and central bankers, as well as representatives from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other global financial institutions, were meeting Friday and Saturday in Canada's for north to discuss firming a shaky global recovery.
Haiti debt relief is also on the agenda.
