High-energy inspection systems and a mobile low-energy X-ray system are being supplied to the Paraguayan Customs Service by Smiths Detection.

Smiths Detection, located in Maryland, said the contract for its screening systems comes through its partner in the South American country, Grupo Empresarial Preventec S.A.

The deal includes technical support but the monetary value of the award and a delivery schedule for the devices were not disclosed.

The devices to be delivered for security checks at border crossing points and ports are the HCVMe35 high energy system, which can screen whole trucks, and the ScanVan 8585 system, a mobile checkpoint for small packages and goods inspection.

"Our e35 series of cutting-edge high-energy inspection systems is combined with strong local service capabilities in an easy-to-use package for a range of environments," Smiths Detection said. "Our solutions allow government agencies like Paraguayan Customs to make fast and effective decisions in their efforts to intercept contraband and collect duties while ensuring an optimized flow of goods through its country."
