Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. has received a $37.6 million contract for the refurbishment and overhaul of 381 UH-60 tail rotor blades, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.
The work will be performed in Dallas, Texas and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2019. Fiscal 2017 funds of $18.4 million have been allocated. One bid was submitted for the work, and one received.
The UH-60 Black Hawk is the standard medium utility helicopter used by the U.S. Army and is used by 26 countries throughout the world. It is used for transporting troops, delivering supplies, and medical evacuation missions.
The UH-60 is also used for patrol and fire fighting missions. A new armed variant is used for close air-support and escort missions for other helicopters. It has digital avionics and composite rotor blades. Variants have been in use for over 35 years.
More than 3,000 Black Hawks are in use across the world. The U.S. Army is the largest user with more than 2,300 in service.
