Rheinmetall and the Canadian government have reached an agreement where the company will supply naval decoy ammunition to the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years, the company announced Thursday.
The deal also involves General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems–Canada, Rheinmetall said in a statement.
The contract comprises the supply of core components by Rheinmetall for the Omnitrap decoy ammo. Rheinmetall will provide technical assistance in setting up the final assembly line at the General Dynamics facility in Repentigny, Quebec.
While the exact amount of the contract was not disclosed, it is worth "mid-range eight-figure euro amount," the company said.
Ottawa placed an order for 2,450 Omnitraip decoy rounds in 2015.
Rheinmetall also won a 2009 contract to outfit 12 Canadian Halifax-class frigates with MASS, known as the Multi Ammunition Softkill System, the company said.
