The Radiocommunications Agency Netherlands has issued the first license for space activities to the satellite company SES NEW SKIES.

The license results from the Space Activities Law which is in force since 2008 in the Netherlands.

The new law lays down rules for a space register and a license system for launching, operating the flight and controlling the space objects in outer space.

The purpose of the law is to improve the liability of the state in case of damage caused by space objects.

SES NEW SKIES fulfills the financial, insurance and technical space requirements which the law prescribes. The Radiocommunications Agency has concluded this on the basis of an audit report.

The report was presented by SES NEW SKIES at the end of January. The company is planning to launch a new satellite in February.
