Here is a rundown of the deadliest days in NATO's campaign in Afghanistan, after two improvised bombs killed seven US soldiers in the south of the country on Monday:

June 28, 2005: Sixteen US soldiers are killed after a rocket fired by Taliban insurgents in Kunar province hits a Chinook transport helicopter.

April 8, 2007: Six Canadian soldiers with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) are killed in southern Afghanistan when their vehicle passed a roadside bomb.

May 31, 2007: Seven soldiers, five of them Americans, die when their transport helicopter is hit by a rocket.

July 4, 2007: Six Canadian soldiers and their Afghan interpreter are killed when their armoured vehicle passes a roadside bomb in the south.

July 23, 2007: A roadside bomb killed four NATO soldiers in eastern Afghanistan, while two others die in separate incidents in the east and south.

November 10, 2007: A firefight with Taliban insurgents in the northeast leaves six NATO and two Afghan soldiers dead.

July 13, 2008: Nine American soldiers killed in fierce fighting in Kunar province.

August 18, 2008:> Ten French soldiers killed in a Taliban ambush in the Uzbin valley, east of Kabul.

September 17, 2009: Six Italian soldiers die during a bomb attack in Kabul.

October 3, 2009: Nine American soldiers killed in combat in the eastern province of Nurestan, which borders Pakistan.

October 27, 2009: Eight American soldiers die in a series of bombings in the south of the country.

January 11, 2010: Six NATO soldiers — three Americans, two French and a Briton — are killed in combat.

May 18, 2010: Six NATO soldiers die in a Taliban suicide attack on a convoy in Kabul. Two other soldiers are killed on the day, with four dead the day before.

June 7, 2010: Bombings in the south and east of the country kill 10 soldiers, including seven Americans, two Australians and one French.

June 22, 2010: Ten NATO troops, mostly Americans, die in separate incidents across the country.

July 13-14: Twelve Americans die in a series of rebels attacks in the south of the country.

August 30, 2010: Seven US troops die in two Taliban-style bombing attacks in southern Afghanistan.

Also, on December 30, 2009, seven Americans working for the CIA and a Jordanian intelligence agent were killed by an Al Qaeda suicide attack on an American base in Khost province.
