GoSolarUSA has announced that the company signed a letter of intent to explore an exclusive North American distribution agreement with the Chinese firm Xiamen Solar Electronics (XSE).

GoSolarUSA's interest centers around XSE's Volt Technology, an external battery pack that attaches to the Apple iPhone and extends the phone's battery life using a built-in solar panel, USB cable or AC power cord.

The Volt is currently being developed for use with third and fourth-generation iPhones. With the letter of intent signed, GoSolarUSA will conduct due diligence toward a potential distribution agreement for XSE's Volt Technology.

"Apple recently reported that it sold 14.1 million iPhones in the most recent quarter alone," said GSLO President and CEO Tyson Rohde.

"With so many iPhones now in circulation, a battery pack such as the Volt has the potential to make solar energy a part of the daily lives of millions of North Americans.

"We're very excited about the possibility of working closely with XSE, and we hope to sign a definitive agreement with them very soon," Rohde said.

North America is the world's largest market for Apple product accessories. Earlier this year, GoSolarUSA signed an exclusive distribution agreement for the territory with Yosion, the Chinese developer of the Peel 520 accessory for Apple's iPod Touch media player.
