Framatome has solidified its role in France's nuclear energy sector by signing a five-year services contract for the digital Instrumentation and Control (I&C) system of the Flamanville 3 EPR reactor, owned by EDF (Electricite de France). This agreement, finalized during the World Nuclear Exhibition 2023, is centered on in-service support for the I&C protection system of this pivotal nuclear project.

The protection system at Flamanville 3 utilizes Framatome's TELEPERM XS platform, a technology specifically developed for the nuclear industry. This system plays a critical role in reactor safety, as it continuously monitors operational parameters and is designed to initiate an automatic shutdown if certain predefined thresholds are exceeded.

Bernard Fontana, CEO of Framatome, expressed the company's pride in concluding this services contract with EDF. He stated, "We are pleased to have concluded this services contract with EDF and proud to contribute to the production of safe, competitive and low-carbon energy in France." Fontana also noted the significance of the Flamanville 3 EPR, which incorporates recent advances in nuclear safety, and he highlighted the TELEPERM XS I&C system as a benchmark in state-of-the-art nuclear technology.

The scope of the contract includes a comprehensive range of services. Framatome will handle maintenance for systems and equipment, monitor and address hardware and software obsolescence, maintain qualifications, provide technical support services, and conduct on-site interventions. This extensive support ensures the reliability and safety of the Flamanville 3's I&C systems.

The TELEPERM XS platform, integral to Framatome's digital solutions portfolio, has a global footprint. It is currently installed or being installed in 92 reactors across 17 countries, underscoring its reputation as a reliable and advanced system in the nuclear sector.

Flamanville 3, located in France, houses a 1,600 MW EPR pressurized water reactor currently in the pre-operation phase. This reactor represents a leap forward in nuclear technology, integrating the latest advancements in safety, environmental sustainability, and economic performance. The reactor is designed to supply safe, competitive, and low-carbon electricity. Framatome's role extends beyond the I&C system; the company is also actively involved in assisting EDF with the construction and commissioning of the Flamanville 3 reactor.
