The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has made some achievements in introducing space information science into sectors of the national economy, an English newspaper issued at Pyongyang said Saturday.

The country applied such technologies as 3S technology, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Information System (GIS) to agriculture, land management, environmental protection and coal industries, the English-language weekly Pyongyang Times said.

Scientists also schemed to build a computer network to better serve the 3S technology which could be applied to the early warnings of forest fire and facilitate traffic control, the paper added.

The DPRK held a national symposium on global space information science recently at Pyongyang, where dozens of scientists, technicians, university lecturers and postgraduates introduced and exchanged achievements based on space information science.
