Lithium-ion battery charging and storage systems Britain's Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers will come from Marine Systems Technology Ltd.

U.S.-headquartered PaR Systems Inc. said its British subsidiary received the award to design, produce and supply the systems by Thales UK.

The systems to be produced will incorporate the company's COMFIRE, an advanced fireproof composite technology.

"We are very excited about this new application for our COMFIRE technology and of course the opportunity to work with Thales," said Ian Haley, president of PaR's Marine Division. "Although COMFIRE has been proven to be one of the safest technologies available over many years, this is a new area."

PaR Systems said the lithium-ion charging and storage cabinet systems will provide the batteries they contain 120 minutes of protection from fire in the event of a temperature excursion, from within the cabinet or externally. The design of the cabinets will also provide continuous ventilation and access for monitoring of battery conditions.
