Striking workers are blocking access to nuclear group Areva's principal French production site to press demands for a salary hike, union and company security sources said Thursday.
"The site is still blocked," a member of the secuity team told AFP. Security officers have been the only personnel allowed to enter the site in Saint Marcel, in eastern France, since Wednesday night.
The plant employs 1,000 people in the manufacture of nuclear reactors. Management said negotiations were under way.
Jacques Masdebail of the CGT trade union said the strike began at dawn on Wednesday, with particpants blocking access around midnight.
"The strikers want to see negotiations stepped up, a special bonus and a better distribution of the profits," he added.
Sources close to the matter said the CGT had not accepted a management proposal for 2.2 percent salary hike this year.
