Russia has proposed setting up a nuclear conglomerate with Ukraine, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said early Tuesday.
Quoted by Russian news agencies Putin, speaking after a meeting in Kiev with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, said: "It would mean full and entire cooperation between our nuclear industries."
The Russian strongman went on: "We propose to create a major conglomerate that would include joint production of nuclear energy, nuclear construction, as well as the cycle of nuclear fuel.
"If the Ukrainian experts describe this proposal as too revolutionary, we are ready to act progressively."
Russia was prepared to allow its Ukrainian partners to work on the Russian market, especially in helping to modernize the nuclear industry, Putin said.
The two countries could also work together on the markets of third countries, he added.
The Russian agencies quoted Yanukovich as saying the proposal was "interesting."
