General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics, has been awarded a support contract by the U.S. Air Force for a one-year, $47 million contract.
The deal, announced by General Dynamics on Wednesday, was made under the terms of a single award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract that taps the company to provide "infrastructure, development and engineering support" to the U.S. Air Force. The contract includes developing and maintaining simulation software and hardware for warfighter training, according to the company.
A built-in caveat to the deal between the U.S. Air Force and General Dynamics is that the Air Force can exercise an option to extend the contract up to four years.
"General Dynamics remains at the forefront of developing state-of-the-art agile training solutions and services," Dan Busby, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Information Technology's IT Services and Solutions sector, said in a press release.
"Training is essential for successful operations and we will provide simulation software and hardware solutions for live, virtual and constructive training necessary to prepare Air Force units for major combat operations."
General Dynamics says work on the contract will occur at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M.
Saab contracts with Armscor for Gripen weapons support
Saab Defense has received a support services contract from Armscor of South Africa for Gripen fighters flown by the South African air force.
The contract, announced by Saab on Friday, runs from November of this year until February of 2020 and carries a value of about $24.6 million.
South Africa has flown Saab's Gripen fighter since 2008.
