Russia To Develop New Uranium Deposit In East Siberia

Neryungi, Russia (RIA Novosti) Oct 29, 2007 - A large uranium field will be developed in Yakutia in East Siberia, a first deputy prime minister said on Friday. A large uranium ore deposit will be developed here, Sergei Ivanov told journalists. According to Russia's Federal Agency for Nuclear Power (Rosatom), the country has 870,000 metric tons of natural uranium, the world's third-largest reserves behind Australia and Kazakhstan.

Belarus To Hold Tender In 2008 To Build Nuclear Power Plant

Minsk (RIA Novosti) Oct 22, 2007 - Belarus will hold a tender next year for a project to build its first nuclear power plant, at which Russian and Western partners are expected to bid, the prime minister said on Friday. The Belarusian leadership has said the country needs the plant to ensure national energy security amid rising hydrocarbon prices. Russia doubled its gas price for Belarus at the start of the year, after over a decade of heavily discounted prices. The new plant is expected to provide 15% of the country's power consumption.

Larijani Suggests West Put Up With Iran’s Nuclear Program

Tehran, Iran (RIA Novosti) Oct 18, 2007 - Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani proposed on Wednesday that the West come to terms with the Islamic Republic's possession of nuclear technology. Praising Iran's persistence in mastering its nuclear program, Larijani said the West had only two options - either to restrain itself or to recognize Iran and its knowledge in the nuclear sphere and begin cooperation. The Iranian official said Tehran's possession of research data on the peaceful use of nuclear energy had enhanced Iran's strategic authority.
