Analysis: Russia’s nuclear-energy ambition

Washington, (UPI) Apr 22, 2009 - The global recession has severely hammered the world's leading energy producers as oil has fallen from its July 2008 record high of $147.27 per barrel to slightly more than $50 a barrel today. For Russia, the world's second-largest oil producer, the news has not led to a reduction in production, as on April 16 its Energy Ministry issued a statement noting that it does not expect the country's 2009 crude oil output to fall this year from last year's rate of 9.735 million barrels per day.
