Habia Cable is maintaining its leading position in the Korean nuclear market with another new contract. The company recently signed a contract with Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) to supply nuclear safety grade cables to the new Shin-Ulchin 1 and 2 (APR 1400) nuclear power plants on the Korean east coast. Deliveries are planned to take place through an 18-month period starting 2014. Habiatron Q class cables have been installed in all new nuclear power plants built in Korea since the construction of Younggwang 5 and 6 in the late 1990s, a total of approximately ten installations. Habia CEO, Carl Modigh, comments: "We take great pride in winning this important contract in Korea as it confirms that our long term investments in the nuclear market are paying off. " Micael Lindberg, Vice President and head of the nuclear division at Habia Cable adds: "Korea's nuclear industry is expanding fast and is one of the few countries besides China, Russia and India that is investing in the construction of new power stations. Our unique, safety class products are designed to withstand the most demanding working conditions such as extreme radiation and excessive heat and today have a service life of up to 60 years. In addition, these products already meet the strictest safety demands of the future." According to Lindberg, the Koreans have consistently shown strong interest in high-tech innovations which can offer added value and recognised Habia Cable's product range at an early stage in the country's nuclear development. He says: "We are naturally pleased to receive this continued confidence in our products and hope that more nuclear power stations around the world will now also recognise Habia Cable's innovations and insist on investing in the highest possible safety, both when it comes to the construction of new stations as well as the upgrading of existing plants."
