Russia, France increase nuclear cooperation: report Moscow (AFP) June 8, 2010 Russia and France signed an agreement Tuesday widening their areas of cooperation in nuclear energy research and development, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported. Sergei Kirienko, head of Russian atomic agency and Bernard Bigot, director of the French atomic and alternative energies commission, signed an agreement in Moscow which updates two past deals from 1993 and 2000. "This agreement has paved the way for cooperation in the nuclear domain with France. The Russian specialists can now visit French research centres and vice versa," Kirienko said, quoted by RIA-Novosti. The new accord considerably increases the areas of cooperation between Moscow and Paris regarding nuclear energy, such as the pursuit of joint nuclear research and the treatment of nuclear radioactive waste. Russia and France are due to develop a common action plan later this year.
