Romania eyeing four possible sites for nuclear plant: report Bucharest (AFP) April 1, 2009 Romania has shortlisted four different sites in the country for the construction of a second nuclear power plant by 2020, the outgoing head of its atomic agency said Wednesday. Valica Gorea, who headed the Romanian Nuclear Agency from 2005 until earlier this week, told the Newsin agency that out of a total 100 possible sites, locations in Brasov, Sibiu, Arad and Cluj were currently being considered. Gorea said that the new plant would comprise two or three reactors with a combined capacity of 3,000 megawatts. Romania currently has just one nuclear power plant in Cernavoda, where two reactors are so far in operation, supplying around 17 percent of the country's total energy needs. Two more reactors are expected to become operational by 2014-2015. Share This Article With Planet Earth
